The breastplate is made from one or more metal plates and is less flexible than say a                   . It can be worn alone with straps around the back or can be worn with a back-plate (again made from one or more pieces). Some styles can be expensive.
 
TIP: -Look out for cheaper versions with a rougher finish. This may be advertised as 'munitions' armour and was popular among the less well off in the late Middle Ages.
   TheCuiras here is made up of several pieces. The upper Chest plate, the lower part is the               , with a Fauld,
made up of three Lames. A fourth, upper thigh protector, which is held on  with leather straps and buckles.

    The main body armour is called a Cuirass, though this is itself a collection of parts, predominately the breastplate and backplate. These are often some of the thickest pieces, to ensure the wearer is well protected in this vital area.
